Top 5 Bites at Disneyland
These are our top favorite Disneyland treats (just Disneyland, not including California Adventure). It was a little difficult to narrow it down to only five! Basically, our strategy is to ride, eat, ride, eat, ride, eat, haha. It’s a good thing we do so much walking around the park. Now, to save your wallet (and your waistline), here’s a pro tip: share these! By sharing, we’re able to try more things and stretch our food budget (as far as it will go, haha).
Number 1: The Monte Cristo
Where to Get: Cafe Orleans (New Orleans Square, by Pirates of the Caribbean)
You’ve may have heard of this one. This is the mother of all sandwiches, people. You start with a ham and cheese sandwich (there’s also a 3 cheese option) and then you deep fry it. Then you add some raspberry puree for dipping and, voila! It’s huge and can be easily shared between 2-3 people. If it’s just Rhett and I, we’ll often get 1 sandwich and 1 cup or bowl of gumbo to share. Here’s another tip, you can get this sandwich at 2 different restaurants at Disneyland (Cafe Orleans and The Blue Bayou), but one is $10 less! Unless you are going for the atmosphere, get this sandwich at Cafe Orleans and save yourself ten bucks! Also, if you are celebrating a birthday, ask for a Birthday Beignet it’s FREE!

Number 2: Dole Whip
Where to Get: Tiki Room (the inside line)
Ok, so I know it’s possible to get these outside of Disney, but there’s just something about the cold pineapple decadence that is SO much better enjoyed in the Tiki Tiki Tiki Tiki Tiki Room. Maybe it’s the heat. Maybe it’s the nostalgia. Maybe it’s all in my head, but I can’t seem to skip getting at least one of these delicious beauties each trip. It’s also a great way to take a break from the heat and rest your feet. Get your ice cream and enjoy it in the cool darkness of the Tiki room. You’ll thank me later (3 hours later when you are still singing that catchy tune). Also, don’t forget that the ice cream line INSIDE the waiting area for the attraction is almost always a lot shorter. Even if you aren’t going to the show, go to the inside line. One last note about these, there are 2 main options: Dole Whip (soft serve pineapple ice cream) or the Dole Whip Float (soft serve in pineapple juice), and both are yummy!

Number 3: Soup Bowl
Where to Get: Royal Street Veranda (New Orleans Square)
My mouth is watering just thinking about this. I’ll be honest and say that my favorite place to get these is over at the Pacific Wharf Cafe in California Adventure. However, if you are in Disneyland (and want it filled with gumbo), then you’ll want to get it at the Royal Street Veranda that is just east of Cafe Orleans. This is a walk-up, window style venue. You can only get Gumbo (steak or vegetarian) or creamy clam chowder at this location (at Pacific Wharf there are other options, but not gumbo). These are also great to share between 2 people. There is a LOT of delicious sourdough bread and the gumbo is so yummy. I’m not even a huge sourdough fan, but I love these. The bread comes from Boudins, a San Francisco original. There are a few Boudins in California and we’ll sometimes hit these outside of the parks because we love them so much.

Number 4: Hand-Dipped Corndog
Where to Get: Stage Door Cafe (Frontierland)
So, it’s probably a good thing that you’ll be doing a lot of walking around the park, because the next item on my list is the hand-dipped corndogs from the Stage Door Cafe. Now, you can find other corndogs in the park, but they just aren’t the same as the hand-dipped version. These are a great kid item. You can also choose between fries or apple slices as a side. Besides Stage Door, the only other place to get these is the Little Red Wagon on Main Street USA (just before you turn right for Tomorrowland). Something nice about Stage Door is that it’s located right next to the Golden Horseshoe, where you can take your food inside (where it’s cool and there are tables) and watch a cowboy show. This is another way to get out of the heat, rest your feet and enjoy a yummy snack (share, share, share).

Number 5: Dreyer’s Ice Cream
Where to Get: Gibson Girl Ice Cream Parlor (Main Street USA)
There are a few really great places to get ice cream between Disneyland and California Adventure. We can’t seem to miss grabbing a waffle cone from Dreyer’s on Main Street USA. I mean, look at it. You can’t go wrong here.

There you have it! A handful of my go-to snacks from Disneyland. There are a lot of others I could have mentioned, but these are easy to get and generally loved by everyone. If you are ready to book your trip, make sure you check out Get-Away-Today’s prices for their tickets because they’ve been running some awesome summer deals.
Bonus Snacks:
Here are a few other snacks that I couldn’t help but mention:
- Chips and Salsa at Rancho del Zocalo Restaurante
- Churros from a Churro Cart
- Cotton Candy from, well, everywhere
- Chocolate Covered Ice Cream Mickey from the snack carts near the castle
Hello fellow Utahn and Disneyland lovers!
I use to think that this was the best way to save a few dollars on passes to the park, but have since found a better way!
We purchase Disney gift cards from Smith’s/Kroger when they’re doing their 4x’s rewards on gift cards! Now, you don’t save money on the actually passes, but you do save a grundle at the pump!
Plus, we use our Disney Chase card to earn extra rewards to go towards the purchase of our passes.
We use the gift card method as a form of payment plan for our annual passes. We figure out how much we’ll need by the time our passes need to be renewed, and purchase X amount of gift cards each month! Works out lovely for our family!
Cheers and happy travels!
Great idea!!! Back in college, my husband worked for Smith’s Marketplace and we totally took advantage of those gift card sales! I have a similar gift card strategy on my “Discount Disneyland Tickets” post (in case you didn’t see it): https://boltonhustle.com/2017/05/22/discount-disneyland-tickets/
