Glamping at Marsh Lake

Rhett and I both grew up camping. Some of my favorite memories as a kid involve horses and pack-trips into the High Uinta’s, while Rhett’s revolve around canoeing expeditions to the far reaches of Yellowstone Lake with his grandpa and scout troop. There is something about being somewhere that no one else is. The sound of the wind through the trees. And the smell. The glorious smell of fresh mountain air and its crispness as you drink your hot cocoa in the morning. The campfires. The peace. Then, there’s also the bugs. The bears. The no toilets for miles. Being pregnant made that last one a little more of a challenge on our three camping trips this summer (four if you count Trek. I count Trek as… something else, haha). Still, though. Such great memories. Good food, good friends, and a queen-sized air mattress, complete with a memory foam topper. Hey, pregnant, remember? That’s why it’s called “glamping,” my friends. Here are a few photos from the latest trip, Marsh Lake, with our BFFs Jonathan and Susanna. Susanna is also pregnant; more pregnant than me. Needless to say, we ate well… and often 😉

ALSO – as a little tidbit of info for you, if you want to book what I deem to be a “good” campsite within the vicinity of Salt Lake, you need to book it 6 months in advance. Literally six months. So, if you want a site for June, you best be booking it in exactly 6 months prior in January. If you want a site for July, book in February, etc. This requires a little planning ahead, but it is SO worth it. You will book the campsite on recreation.gov’s website (here, for example).

The “men-folk” preparing camp. FYI, last semester’s law school books make great kindling. Just ask Jonathan.

This was literally the day after we totalled our car. Rhett got a nice burn from the airbag.

Susanna and Tika spending a little quality time reading Harry Potter (judging from Susanna’s face, Snape may have just done the unthinkable to Dumbledore).

Sadly, I was in a bit of pain from the car accident, so I did a lot of “supervising,” while Tika kept watch (aka barked at every squirrel, camper, and insect that went by).

Thanks, Barbara!!! Yep, 100% scouters. Rhett is an Eagle Scout (Jonathan might be too, can’t remember!). I would LOVE to hear some of your dutch oven tips! I posted some of these photos to IG, I think it was back on Sept. 4th.
