6 Rides Before Lunch (Disneyland Strategy)

Let’s be real. Nobody wants to wait in lines all day when they go to Disneyland. And guess what, you don’t have to! There’s a clear and SIMPLE strategy involved in getting on the most rides, without rushing about, even on busy days at the park. Follow this guide and you can easily check off 6 rides before lunch, maybe more!

Step 1) The first thing you ALWAYS do when you get to Disneyland is get a fast pass. Do this. Whether this is using the free system or the MaxPass. In our example (as seen on the video below), we got a fast pass to Haunted Mansion (only available between Halloween and Christmas). Other suggestions: Space Mountain, Indiana Jones, Thunder Mountain, Star Tours, or basically ANY of the LONG wait time rides that have a fast pass.

Step 2) Next, get in line for another ride. There are a few rides that are almost always under 20 minutes. Ride one of those (like Pirates of the Caribbean). Use the Disneyland App to check wait times. Find a ride that is nearby that is under 20 minutes.

Step 3) Just to make your morning extra good, get a snack or a quick treat somewhere. Just trust me on this.

Step 4, 5 & 6) While you are snacking, use the app to check for another ride with the SHORTEST wait time. Get in that line, and while you are waiting, check the app again to find your next short line. Do this three times. (our example: Jungle Cruise, Teacups, It’s a Small World).

Step 7) Ride the Disneyland Railroad to your next destination. It’s both a ride and a way to rest your feet at the same time. And if you are not in a hurry, ride it all the way around to get a good tour of the park!

Step 8) It is likely that it’s now time to redeem the fast pass that you got back in step 1 (our example was Haunted Mansion). Do that!

Step 9) Get your next fast pass AS SOON AS YOU ARE ALLOWED, which should be about now.

Step 10) Eat lunch! And if you need suggestions for lunch, check out this post.

There you have it, 6 rides before lunch. As a recap: Keep repeating the process of 1) getting a fast pass as soon as you are able and 2) riding all the short line rides in between. Here’s a quick vid of us following the same strategy:

Now, as a quick disclaimer as to the rides we chose on this particular day, I was pregnant and slightly hangry, so you’ll notice that there were fewer vertigo-inducing rides and lots of snacking involved. The same strategy applies to the other rides. We also did this on a busy park day and at a rather leisurely pace. You’ll notice that we didn’t get on Pirates until 9:42AM and got on our 6th ride 2.5 hours later (when you’ve spent as many hours in the park as we have, you realize that “hurrying” isn’t your preferred pace). With that said, just think about how many rides you could do if you had your walking shoes on 😉 Happy riding!
